A Fair Future

Education

What the problem is:

Nevada’s education laws have not kept pace with the needs of students, particularly students with disabilities and those identified as at risk. Existing laws governing education funding lack sufficient accountability and do not consistently ensure resources reach the students they are intended to support.

What she will focus on:

Kamilah will work to strengthen laws governing education funding, including At-Risk dollars, to ensure transparency, accountability, and enforceability. She will advocate for laws that protect students with disabilities, respect educators’ professional expertise, and ground legislative decisions in real classroom experience.

Public Safety

What the problem is:

Current public safety laws often emphasize punishment over prevention, leaving communities struggling to balance safety, accountability, and civil rights.

What she will focus on:

Kamilah will support laws that strengthen community safety while upholding civil liberties and due process. This includes legislation that addresses root causes of crime, expands access to mental health services, and ensures public safety systems are accountable to the communities they serve.

Affordability and Housing

What the problem is:

Nevada’s housing laws have not kept pace with the growing influence of corporate ownership and the rapid rise in housing costs. As a result, too many working families, seniors, and longtime residents are being priced out of the neighborhoods they helped build, with limited legal protections to ensure stability and fairness.

What she will focus on:

Kamilah will work on legislation that strengthens tenant protections, increases transparency in housing practices, and holds corporations accountable. Housing laws should prioritize stability, fairness, and the ability of families to remain rooted in their communities.
